All of us are in pursue of happiness. We desire to love and be loved. We pursue better life style, more comfortable vehicle, modern clothes, more easier and faster technology—a freedom to make choices and not be judged by others. But what is happiness? Can it be that what we pursue, actually doesn’t satisfy us?
I can say that we all might disagree on what makes us happy. What make you happy, doesn’t make me happy, what makes me happy, probably wont bring you joy. The thought is conceived, then it perused, when accomplished, it bring the reward to our minds (this is called happiness)—we pursue it, it’s our dream. However, does what we pursue actually satisfies our comfort? After the fall of man, can it be that we are pursing the empty conception?
To chase after empty, dead object is senseless. But when people say, "Everyone has a right to be happy," they say it in a way like people know what brings them happiness and that they are in the right path towards it. Two people might have the same car, the same model, the same year, but both have different opinion towards this car. One might be overwhelmed with satisfaction and gratitude, and the other constantly express the anger and frustration, but both have the same car!
What's with this world, we buy the car we want, later we express dissatisfaction. We buy the house, years go by, then we want a different one. Have you ever notice familiar things in your life? When the context of our life changes, then depression is our best friend. The problem is not that the world is not providing us what we want, it's what we demand from the world it can't provide. We chaise after empty ineffectual ideas, which in reality leaves us broken.
Christ says, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Mtt 11:28). Rest is giving by Christ. Philippians 4:7 says, "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Another words, the mind and heart is satisfied do to God's interference which brings us peace. We might be looking for happiness, but are we looking for something that in few minutes will be gone and empty or are we looking for something that no worldly object can give.
Now when people say, "everyone has a right to be happy," yes they do. But the only true happiness is received in God. He created us to be happy and He gives us this happiness in Christ Jesus.
