Communion The steps of Jesus is the reminder for us all. Taking the cup and eating the bread serves as reminder of what Jesus did on the cross; the Father forgave the sinner, was satisfied in his holiness as He pored the wrath on his Son. You might ask, why would He do that? Why kill His own Son? Well it's because of who He is, and it's because of who we are. God by nature is love, and by nature is holy--on the cross these two sides meet. The cross of Christ reflects holiness and incomparable love; humans are lost, guilty, fall short in our own righteousness; everywhere we look, we see murder, hatred, and crime, but that is only from our human perspective--from God perspective the scale is much higher. Every person that comes into the earth, comes in to the earth guilty, sinners before God (Romans 5:12).
Being a sinner, guilty before God, Jesus however, makes an intervention for those who believe in Him. "Yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors" (Isa 53:12). Therefore, the people who eat the bread and drink the wine remember Christ on the cross paying the price that should be paid by us--Jesus Christ shields the sinner before the Father on the cross.
